Waterbirth Story
3 am February 5, 2001, Due date! My husband
Dave and I try Sex to get labor going on Sunday night Feb 4th, it worked
well with our first Daughter! Well 4 hr later Labor started, took 4 hrs
but it started and it was slow. 10 hrs of contractions every 10 min,
much different from my first daughters labor, which was 8 1/2 hrs, start
to finish! I woke my husband at 3:30 am and told him baby was coming and
he should go to sleep in the bed with Elizabeth for a while so she
doesn't wake up.
Around 6 am i called my midwifes to tell them stiff was starting but not
much. Then i got on the internet for a while and then i tried watching
TV, I sat up right and dozed in between contractions for 45 min or so,
then i started getting things ready to go to the birth center, and i got
dressed, around 9 am i woke Dave up and Elizabeth was getting up. I sat
and timed my contractions all morning still 10 minute apart. My parents
came over to play with Elizabeth and we all watched a movie.
After the movie i decided it would be better it they took Elizabeth to
there house for awhile (only 5 min away) so they did. As soon as they
left i had a huge contraction! And Labor was started. Contractions went
to every 5 minutes. I tried to eat some pizza (never do that when in
labor). And finally the CNM called to see how we were doing and Dave
told him everything had just really picked up and that i was eating.
David (the midwife) said to just do what we were doing and call when we
felt ready to come in. With in an hour i started to shake and i knew i
was in
transition, and ready to get in the tub, so i had Dave call the midwifes
back and tell them we were coming. I went and puked.
Then our car wouldn't start! So we called my parents who were going to
meet us at the birth center, to come and give us they're other cars!
Then we all went to the birth center. David had the tub ready for me!
And after he took my Blood pressure and checked the baby's heart beat,
and checked my cervix real quick. I was at 7 cm already! Then i got
right in the tub. I wasn't in there to long before i needed to push but
i still had a lip of my cervix so my David helped get rid of the lip
while i pushed, about 15
min later my water broke as Hailey Nicole was born at 5:02 pm.
After a little bit i finally got out of the tub, still holding my baby,
still one with her as the cord was still there. When it stopped pulsing
the cord was cut and Hailey was nursing with in 15 min of being in the
world. She nursed as i delivered my placenta.
After a while, I needed to pee so i got up Elizabeth (Hailey's big
sister) came in to see her, as did her Papa. Daddy and Elizabeth held
the baby also Grandma and Papa. When she was finally weighed, she
weighed 7 lbs 13 oz and was 20 inches long! We were home with in 4 hrs
of her birth! It was great!
Hailey is now 20 months old, she is very energetic, and smart! Working
hard on talking. Hailey and her big Sister Elizabeth are now waiting for
the arrival of the new sibling, dues early Feb. 2003!
