Natural Diabetes Management With Herbs
Probably more than any other disease, diabetes is a preventable condition. For many people, developing Type II diabetes could probably have been avoided by watching their diets
more closely – reducing their consumption of simple carbohydrates and
refined sugars – and performing more exercise throughout the day. But
if you are one of the nearly 21 million people in the United States who has
diabetes, the first thing you should know that it is managed not only
through diet and exercise, but also through the use of herbs. In fact, many individuals have discovered – much to their
delight – that they have actually been able to discontinue the use of
insulin hsots just by taking the simple steps of supplementing their diets
and exercise with the use of herbs. If
you want to try this approach, the first caution we want to give you is not
to discontinue your insulin on your own without your health care
practitioner's advice, counsel and permission.
You'll want to use these herbs in conjunction with your insulin or
other diabetes medications. While
you do this, visit your health care practitioner or your herbal practitioner
frequently so she can review your levels. Once
you make the choice, the herbs you choose will be those that strengthen and
normally your pancreas. Here's
a combination of herbs that work extremely well in this area:
goldenseal, juniper berries, uva ursi, huckleberry leaves, mullein,
comfrey, yarrow, garlic, capsicum, dandelion, marshmallow, buchu, bistort,
and licorice. Instead
of taking each of these in supplement form on a daily basis, you should seek
out an herbalist in your area to mix a combination formula for you.
If you don't know of any in your area, start by visiting the nearest
health food store. They can
direct you to a competent herbalist. Recent
studies indicate that another plant – one we don't necessarily associate
with herbal healing – can indeed help improve this metabolic disorder.
It's cinnamon. Cinnamon,
it turns out, is a rich source of magnesium, which is intimately linked to
the maintenance of healthy bone density, as well as electrolyte balance and
specific functions of the enzymes and crucial biochemical processes. This
natural plant may work because it provides a source of magnesium that your
body can assimilate quickly. Advocates
of this herb, say all it takes to notice improvement is to use a
half-teaspoon a day. This can
easily be carried out simply by using the convenient powered variety in
milkshakes or adding it to other foods you eat.
There's also an added benefit to using cinnamon regularly:
it provides you with more energy! Before
you use any herb, though, you need to consult your health-care practitioner.
Use of these natural plants may alter the need for prescription
drugs.
