Hives - Prevention
Ah, yes! You do your best in attempting to prevent a case of hives from ever even occurring. But let’s face it, it’s difficult to prevent something that has so many causes – or no apparent cause. So it’s not a case of the measles, the mumps or even the flu, in which you can take a set series of precautions and be assured of being hives-free. There’s no vaccine for it. There’s no exercise program or even a diet that keeps you from developing that first outbreak. Taking two
simple steps though may help you to sidestep this itchy problem. First, if you already know that contact with something
triggers a case of the hives, avoid it.
While this may sound amazingly simple, depending on what the allergen
is, it might not be. Second, if you
just can’t pinpoint with the accuracy you like what triggers your hives,
then keep a journal. Don’t
worry, you don’t have to be a Shakespeare, or even a Hemingway, for this
to be an effective tracking of your hives. This system
though works very well if you suspect that your continual hives problem is
due to something you’re eating. In your journal, write down everything
you’ve eaten for the day (if you want to include other possible allergens
you think you may have come in contact with like pet dander, that’s an
added bonus!) This way if you
do develop hives again, you can check your journal to see not only what
you’ve eaten, but what you can in contact with as well. Think your
hives might be due to a new medication you’re taking?
It’s possible. This
happens more often than you may realize.
Check with your personal health care practitioner.
Together you can see if this is the case. For some
individuals, simply drinking on alcoholic beverage can trigger a case of
hives. And for others, drinking
alcohol while you’re experiencing hives, makes the situation even worse. Stress.
While this energy-zapping, mind numbing word is small, its potential
negative effects on the body are huge.
And stress alone can’t cause a case of hives to magical appear. But
stress can often make your bout with this health concern worse.
More and more experts in the medical community are recommending yoga
as a way to intelligently manage your stress. Yoga adds a sense of balance
to your life and it especially clams the mind. Other experts
recommend that, in order to keep your outbreaks to a minimum, you add a
sense of routine to your life. Eat
your meals at regular times – all the time. Exercise at a predetermined
time everyday. Well, you get
the idea. But the most
important area, these specialists tell us, where routine seems to be
essential, is in our sleeping habits. You’d
be amazed at how important – and how much easier your days will be – if
you go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time every single
days. And yes, that even means
on your days off!
